Fícha Privacy Policy

Last updated 26 September 2026

Fícha is a flashcard app for learning Rioplatense (Uruguayan and Argentine) Spanish, on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. This page explains, in plain language, what information Fícha keeps, why, for how long, and how to delete it. Fícha is run by John Nelson (elier.ai). Questions: [email protected].

The short version

What we collect and why

InformationWhy we keep it
Account details: your email address, or your Apple ID relay address if you use Sign in with Apple, and an account identifier. To sign you in and keep your deck separate from everyone else's. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
Your cards: the Spanish and English words, example sentences, notes and tags you create or import. They are your deck. We store them so you can study on any of your devices.
Study history: each review you grade, when you graded it, and the scheduling state derived from it. Spaced repetition needs your past answers to decide when to show a card next.
Voice captures: short audio recordings you make with the Capture button on your iPhone or Apple Watch. So you can listen again and turn what you heard into a card. The recording is uploaded to our server and kept until you delete it or delete your account. A capture can include the voices of people near you — please be considerate about where you record.
Card pictures: images you choose for a card from the public image libraries Fícha searches, with their attribution. To show the picture on your card. Stored with that card.
Verb practice results: which conjugations you got right or wrong. To choose which forms to practise next.
Settings: daily limits, reminder time, preferred study direction. To remember how you like to study.

Stays on your device: dictating a card uses Apple's speech recognition on your device, and reading text from a photo (for example a menu or a sign) uses Apple's text recognition on your device. Neither the dictation audio nor the photo is sent to us — only the words you then save as a card. Study reminders are scheduled on your device.

What we do not collect

No location, contacts, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or health data. No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs are built into the app. If that ever changes, this policy will change first.

Who else handles your data

We use a small number of service providers, only to run Fícha:

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for advertising. We would disclose it only if required by law.

How long we keep it

Your cards, study history, captures, card pictures and settings are kept for as long as your account exists, or until you delete them. When you delete your account, we delete all of it. Our database backups are kept for up to 30 days, so a copy of deleted data may remain in a backup for up to 30 days before it is gone.

Deleting your data

Security

Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS). Every request is checked against your signed-in session, and each account can only reach its own data.

Children

Fícha is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
